Elara

Elara is one of Jupiter's irregular moons, discovered in 1905 by American astronomer Charles Dillon Perrine. With an estimated diameter of about 86 kilometers (53 miles), Elara is relatively small compared to some of Jupiter's other moons. It follows an eccentric and inclined orbit around Jupiter, which places it among the group of irregular moons associated with the planet. Due to its small size and distant orbit, limited information is available about Elara's physical characteristics and surface features. Its irregular shape and relatively faint appearance in telescopic observations have made detailed study challenging. Elara's origin is thought to be linked to captured asteroids or fragments from larger celestial bodies that were captured by Jupiter's gravitational influence.
