Namaka
Namaka was discovered in 2005 alongside its parent dwarf planet Haumea, located in the Kuiper Belt. With an estimated diameter of approximately 170 kilometers (105 miles), Namaka orbits Haumea at about 26,000 kilometers (16,000 miles). Its name, derived from Hawaiian mythology, honors a goddess of the sea and water. Due to its modest size and considerable distance from Earth, our understanding of Namaka's surface features and composition remains limited, but it is presumed to consist largely of water ice and other icy materials, common among objects in the Kuiper Belt. Namaka's orbital dynamics, along with its sibling moon Hi'iaka, contribute significantly to our knowledge of Haumea's mass and density, offering insights into the dwarf planet's internal structure.
