22 Kalliope
Asteroid 22 Kalliope, discovered on November 16, 1852, by the British astronomer John Russell Hind, is a significant member of the asteroid belt located between Mars and Jupiter. Named after Kalliope, the muse of epic poetry in Greek mythology and daughter of Zeus and Mnemosyne, this asteroid has an estimated diameter of approximately 166 kilometers (103 miles). Kalliope orbits the Sun at an average distance of about 422 million kilometers (262 million miles), completing its orbit in roughly 4.5 Earth years.
