Eridanus III
Eridanus III is a faint dwarf satellite galaxy of the Milky Way, discovered in the data from the Dark Energy Survey (DES) located in the constellation Eridanus. The galaxy was identified as a stellar system with a substantial overdensity, indicating a concentration of stars beyond what is expected from the general field population. With an apparent angular size of approximately 11 square arcminutes, Eridanus III is relatively small. The distance to Eridanus III from the Sun is estimated to be around 76,000 light-years. Its physical properties, such as luminosity and structure, place it within the category of ultra-faint dwarf galaxies, which are characterized by low luminosity and a small number of stars. Studies of galaxies like Eridanus III contribute valuable information to our understanding of the distribution and properties of dwarf galaxies in the Milky Way's vicinity, shedding light on the broader context of galactic formation and evolution.
