Vulpecula

Vulpecula is a small and faint constellation located in the northern hemisphere. Vulpecula is situated in the vicinity of the larger and more prominent constellations Cygnus and Lyra.

History

Vulpecula’s name is Latin for "little fox." It was introduced by the Polish astronomer Johannes Hevelius in the 17th century.

Objects

One notable object within Vulpecula is the Dumbbell Nebula (Messier 27 or M27), which is a planetary nebula. Planetary nebulae are shells of gas and dust ejected by aging stars in the late stages of their evolution.
